Create an account
The seven things Breakerway asks for when you sign up, and why each one is needed.
One account covers both buying and selling. You do not choose between them when you sign up, and you do not need a separate account to sell later.
Go to Sign up and fill in seven fields.
What Breakerway asks for

On a phone this is split across two steps so you are not scrolling through one long form. Your name, username and country come first, then your email address and password. Everything is the same, just in two parts.
Your username
This is the name other people see. It is not what you sign in with, and you cannot use it in place of your email address.
It can be 3 to 20 characters, using letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores. It has to start and end with a letter or a number.
As you type, Breakerway checks whether the username is free. You cannot continue until that check finishes, which usually takes under a second. If the name is taken you will be told straight away and can try another.
Usernames are not case sensitive. If someone already has PartsKing, you
cannot take partsking.
Your country
This is where you live, not where you are browsing from. It affects delivery and tax on anything you buy or sell later, so it is worth getting right.
You can pick any country. Living outside the UK does not stop you having an account.
Your email address
Use an address you can actually receive mail at, because the next step sends you a code.
Breakerway checks that the address can receive mail before creating the account. Temporary or throwaway addresses are refused. If yours is rejected, you will see a message under the email field asking you to use one you can receive mail at.
If you already have an account with that address, Breakerway tells you so and points you at signing in instead. It will not quietly create a second account.
Proving you are not a robot
Before you can submit the form, you need to complete a short check confirming you are a person. It is one click in most cases. If it fails or expires while you are filling in the rest of the form, complete it again before submitting.
What happens next
Your account is created but not yet usable. Breakerway sends a six digit code to your email address, and you land on a screen asking for it.
